Imagine successfully running a coalition with both John Redwood and Tony Greaves in the Cabinet

Imagine not only putting together a Cabinet containing the equivalents of both John Redwood and Tony Greaves, but also steering through major, controversial and path-breaking legislation with this very Cabinet. That was but one of the impressive achievements of the person I picked as a ‘Forgotten Liberal Hero’ when talking at the National Liberal Club a couple of years ago. He’s still someone both mostly forgotten by the party and yet whose career is still full of lessons for the current party:
