Noon, Friday: an important deadline for Lib Dem activists

10pm Thursday is the big deadline for party activists, helpers and supporters. But there’s also an important noon, Friday deadline for a smaller group of activists – those who update the party’s membership records.

That’s because the Liberal Democrats have, quite rightly, an extensive set of plans ready for communicating with members in the event of a hung Parliament. Central to them is email – and therefore having email records for party members as complete and accurate as possible in time for that really matters.

Party HQ tells me that noon, Friday is when updates need to be in the system in order to be sure to be used for the first round of key consultation messages.

So yes, every vote won by 10pm is the most important thing. But if you’re a membership secretary, data officer or another similar person, finding a few minutes before noon Friday to update the party’s records and check they’re as complete as possible is a few minutes well spent. Especially if it’s after 10pm Thursday…!

For activists with access to the party’s Salesforce system, making updates directly there is the best route. Otherwise, there’s libdems.org.uk/contact.

It also makes sense to make sure local records for key non-members are also in good state and ready to roll too. Those regular bakers of cakes for socials who aren’t members, the person who always has a stakeboard in their garden but isn’t a member or that generous donor who also hasn’t joined – they may not have the same formal role in the party’s democratic processes as party members, but they all deserve to hear regularly from their local party in the event of a hung Parliament.
