Lib Dem President: “I was disappointed that Chris [Rennard] put himself forward for election”

Caron Lindsay has blogged the message Lib Dem President Sal Brinton has sent to members of the Federal Executive (FE) following the decision by Liberal Democrat peers to elect Chris Rennard as their rep on the FE:

Personally I am disappointed that Chris put himself forward for election (and was elected) as I know that there are still extremely strong feelings about the case amongst the members of the party. It won’t surprise you to know that I did not vote for him.

She went on to solicit the views of party members on the issue:

Many members of the party have been in touch with me today and I’m sure we will want to discuss this at our next meeting. As a member of the Federal Executive I would also like to know your opinion, and discuss any thoughts you may have.

You can read the message in full on Caron’s blog and Sal Brinton’s email address is president@libdems.org.uk.

Meanwhile, an attempt to call a special conference is already well on its way to securing enough signatures. Given the limited room for procedural manoeuvre if such a request is properly made and submitted, one way or another things are very likely to come to a head soon.
