The other results in yesterday’s council by-elections were:
What's encouraging here is not only the wins, but that where we clearly have no chance of winning, we're now nonetheless regularly increasing our share of the vote.
Well there's always someone who has to spoil it for everyone else Richard. An unfortunate fact of life I'm afraid but yes it is really good to be without that once in a while.
You know what's nice? Being able to post in a Liberal thread on Facebook and not have some pre-teen trash talker defecate all over it with UKIP propoganda. I mean, I'm sure that many UKIPpers are reasoned, legitimate people, but I have progressively found that the smaller factions, who delight on posting incoherent rubbish talk seem to delight on ruining a fine discussion on Liberal values.
Whoops... we strengthened our hold in a previous by-election, sapping votes right out of UKIP's coffers. If UKIP is pegging future success on current stories, they are in BIG trouble with their flagging OUT debacle.
The LIbDems made a BIG mistake in going into coalition with the Tories. They have suffered as a result. I would like to see them make a comeback. This country needs a "middle of the road" party.
What we need is to get Tim's voice heard. He talks a lot of sense; we just need a well deserved audience. And oh yes... as for the Europe campaign that the Libs support? We're winning by up to 20 points in the polls. Others, not so much... but we're still winning. And it burns what's left of UKIP.
Just take a look at how many by elections we have won since May . It is impressive. ( Council seats I mean.
My reasoning for supporting the Liberals are two fold: they have the best range of policies I support by far, and I can count way more politicians in it that I admire than in any other party.
I agree with you there. People (myself included) don't realise how important the lib dems were in the coalition. I know not everyone agreed with that move but they did block a lot of bad legislation from the Tories!
I think the real surge will happen when the reality of a Conservative only Government kicks in... people are REALLY gonna miss the Lib Dems. We are the Conservative's heart and Labour's brains.
As someone who stupidly voted Tory at the last election I am seriously considering voting lib dem next time. I like what Farron is doing and I realise how important a liberal party is at times such as these. It's all too easy for government to take away civil liberty right now and it should be opposed when they try.
Is it over-optimistic to observe that while the "#libdemfightback" has along way to go, there appears to be a clear pattern of significant decline in the UKIP vote?
We haven't made much progress in the polls yet, but Farron seems to be doing well in the leadership polls. And we are attracting members whilst UKIP is haemorrhaging them. So yeah, I guess it already has begun!
Yes Congratulations all round to everyone who won and increase the share of the vote in Eastleigh and gaining a Town Council seat at Godalming Town Council on Jeremy Hunt's doorstep and we increased our share in the 3 remaining by-elections. Well Done Lib Dems let the fight back continue!
