Lib Dem membership was 61,598 at end of 2015

At the end of 2015, Liberal Democrat membership was 61,598, which was up another 1,000 or so from the membership at the time of the leadership contest.

To see the party’s membership growth sustained since then is great. The rate of growth is also a reminder of just how much more work there is to do to hit Tim Farron’s stated aim of 100,000 party members, and all the more so given that half of the party’s members have their membership come up for renewal on 1 July 2016.

UPDATE: During 2016 the party’s membership hit 80,000, the highest it has been this century.
