How do the Liberal Democrat MPs on Twitter measure up?

23 April 2011 + 2 , ,

It’s been a while since I’ve looked at how Liberal Democrat MPs are doing on Twitter, so here’s an up to date table listing all 31 with Twitter accounts and their PeerIndex scores.

Like Klout, PeerIndex gives a rating out of 100 based on factors such as number of followers, how often their messages are retweeted and so on. In other words, whilst not a measure of influence in the world outside Twitter, it gives a sense of how active and popular their Twitter accounts are in the Twitter world.

What do the variables stand for? And are there more than just three columns? It looks like there’s at least one more…

Jennie: the explanations of the variables is (as ever for these sorts of indexes) rather vague. The explanation as it is can be found at http://www.peerindex.net/help/scores but it’s pretty much a long-winded way of saying ‘think of the normal English definitions of these words’ without telling in detail how that is turned into a calculation. So we’re left with judging by the results, which given that they rate me as more influential than Nick Clegg (!) aren’t without some grounds for scepticism… Will blog more on that next week as despite the obvious absurdity of thinkinf of me as more influential than him, I think there’s something useful in these numbers about how people are using Twitter.

It is just the three columns by the way (authority, activity and audience).
