Sharon Bowles to retire at next European Parliament elections

Sad news to relate as the party’s MEPs decide on their plans for the next European elections. Sharon Bowles, MEP for South East England and one of the most powerful Liberal Democrats, will be standing down.

Sharon’s power comes from her highly influential role as Chair of the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee in Europe. It was this role which made her the highest placed British person in the GFS Power 50 list of the most influential figures in global financial regulation.

At home, she’s also been great at supporting local parties in her region, even after taking over the time-consuming committee role.

It’ll be a real shame to see Sharon stand down.
