Haringey councillor in charge of children services quits after damning report

A few days ago I blogged about Yet another tragic failure to protect children by Haringey Council. Now there’s news of the first fallout from that shocking report:

Haringey’s children’s chief Lorna Reith has stepped down following the publication of a damning report into safeguarding in the borough. [Ham & High]

Meanwhile in another long-running related saga:

Baby Peter whistleblower Dr Kim Holt has called on the government to investigate Great Ormond Street Hospital following the death of a baby who was wrongly diagnosed as abused…

She said: “This is down to the government. There is enough information to indicate something isn’t right here. The government needs to investigate the issue of whistleblowers at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

“Andrew Lansley must look at this in detail and sort it out because otherwise it is going to continue to rumble along.”

Last year Great Ormond Street’s management weathered a withering leader in The Lancet, but perhaps this time Andrew Lansley will call for a full and independent investigation into the repeated complaints of serious management failings?
