Liberal Democrat bid to axe secret courts loses by just 1 vote

10-9. By just 1 vote in committee, a move by Liberal Democrat MPs Julian Huppert and Mike Crockart to axe secret courts from the Justice and Security Bill was lost, beaten by a combination of Conservatives and DUP.

Full credit to Julian for pushing the issue this far. He was part of the losing side when this issue was debated at party conference. He’s clearly listened to the views expressed then, and done more than just listen – he’s also been persuaded and acted, pushing to a vote what Lib Dem conference called for and losing by just the one vote.

  1. I really do rate Julian. He is actually someone that does listen and backs what he says. I am upset regarding the outcome on this but good on him.
