Tim Farron welcomes the secret court about turn

As I pointed out in David Laws to move conference motion proposing an end to secret courts, the Liberal Democrat pre-manifesto document commits to getting rid of the highly controversial secret courts:

We will find practical alternatives to the use of closed material proceedings within the justice system, including the provisions of the Justice and Security Act 2013, with the aim of restoring the principle of open justice.

That’s a line that helps the Lib Dems stand out from Labour on civil liberties.

Tim Farron has since tweeted his support for the change of tack:
