If only it was a game of three halves and the third half was a second half, not a first half. (Though obviously they wouldn’t be halves, because that wouldn’t make sense even in this world of 110% commitment, 200% backing and 300% effort).

I should have seen the writing on the wall after our set-piece fiascos against Norway.

One ray of sunshine – the quality BBC subtitles which told me that England were having a problem not making enough shops in the second half. Remedial crash course from Blue Peter presenters required. Send sticky back plastic to Germany now. And all this from a nation of shopkeepers.
