Labour council candidate ‘let out illegally converted flats’

So reports Get West London from Hounslow:

A landlord whose property was illegally converted into ‘cramped and substandard’ flats, according to a council report, is a Labour candidate, getwestlondon can reveal.

Vickram Grewal, who is due to stand in Hounslow Heath at the local elections this May, has been ordered by Hounslow Council to restore the property at 3 New Road, Bedfont, or face prosecution.

Mr Grewal, whose father Darshan Grewal is a Labour councillor for the same ward but was not chosen to stand at the upcoming elections, bought the house for £250,000 in January 2013, according to the Land Registry.

Neighbours reported in October that year that it had been converted into two flats without planning permission, prompting a council investigation.
