Paging Lib Dem conference reps: will you support this amendment to the equalities motion?

Aside from the emergency business motion about the Federal Executive’s unconstitutional behaviour that I’m supporting and the amendment that attempts to sort out the mess with the OMOV proposals which I’ve put in to the Lib Dem conference in Glasgow, I’ve also put together a simple amendment to the excellent equalities motion, in order to strengthen its provisions regarding the digital world:

F27 Expanding Opportunity, Unlocking Potential (Equalities Paper) – amendment

Insert after line 70 and reletter accordingly:

c) Conducting a review of anti-discrimination law and of existing laws, guidelines and standards on access to digital goods and services to ensure they are fit for the modern age and so that, in particular, people with disabilities and older people have fair access to digital public services, the digital economy and the workplace.

It’s fairly self-explanatory: the digital world offers huge potential benefits for better access, such as the ability to turn content into multiple different formats to suit different people’s requirements. With some sensible action we can make sure that everyone is able to benefit from these opportunities, not just those who most readily and most enthusiastically take to technology. The OneVoice for Accessible IT campaign has some good background information on why the review talked about in the amendment is needed.

If you are a voting conference representative and would like to support this amendment, please let me know by emailing your name, membership number and local party to mark.pack@gmail.com. (If you’re also willing to support the FE or OMOV submissions too, that would be fab – do let me know.)
