As Helen Duffett has blogged, there are plans to introduce a diagonal crossing outside Wood Green tube station. However, take a look at the Haringey Council web page about the project and you see an example of how not to communicate with the public:
- The page does not provide any meaningful detail about what is going to be done,
- There are no links to further information, and
- There will be a public exhibition with staff on hand to answer questions - but only on one day for 3 hours, which makes the paucity of the web page all the more unfortunate.
A project such as this, where pictorial and audiovisual information can add greatly to people's understanding of the plans and so ability to ask the relevant questions, is almost designed for the internet, with its ability to easily combine text, documents, diagrams, clips and more all in one page.
Not all of those options are going to be appropriate on each occasion, but what a shame that all Haringey has done with its website is to give one page of text.
