Hip hip hoooray. Good news in the latest email I've had from Islington Council. The green box doorstep recycling scheme now takes a wider range of plastics. So - note to self - you can now recycle:

Plastic bottles of all kinds, including:

Mineral water, cordial and cooking oil bottles
Milk bottles
Coloured and clear fizzy drinks bottles
Bleach and cleaning fluid bottles
Shampoo and shower gel bottles
Detergent and fabric conditioner bottles

Plastic containers of any size or colour, including:

Yoghurt pots
Food trays
Ice cream tubs
Margarine containers
Fruit punnets
Plastic bags (yay!)
Magazine wrapping (cue scramble in other bin to move materials over)

There's a full list of the material which can be recycled via the green box scheme over on the Islington Council website.

Why do councils not say they take plastics by the plastic type. Eg Calderdale says it takes "drinks bottles but not tops". Basically that is type 1 and 2 plastic so if the top is also type 1 or 2 they can take it and can take some of the same plastic that aren't drinks bottles but are the same type.

When I ask at the bring sites they are quite happy for that material to go into the skip - but they won't take it door to door.

BTW if that change means they will take type 5 plastics then will they also take empty Riso ink tubes (the LD holy grail for recycling :-)

Nuts - forgot to change my fake id from my last "highly amusing" post :-)
