The curious case of the two new London Underground maps
If you’ve got a hard copy of the new (December 2011) edition of the increasingly misnamed London Tube map, you may be wondering quite what I was on about with my recent post, The new London tube map (December 2011 version). And you would be right to wonder. Because whilst my post starts off talking [...]
The new London tube map (December 2011 version)
Just in time for Christmas, a new version of the London Underground’s tube map is out. Well, I say “tube map” but with the latest addition to it, that is an increasingly inappropriate name. “Underground” is not much better either, as the main change is an addition which is most certainly not a tube and [...]
Where gets hottest on the London Underground?
Transport for London has put together a variant of the usual Tube map, showing which parts of the network get hottest. It is based on heat data from last summer (you know, the one which had some sun). You can view the Tube heatmap here and then wonder why Edgeware Road is quite so hot.
The new London tube map (August 2011 version)
Two recent changes have triggered the production of a new version of the London tube (plus London Overground) map: the opening of the latest (and most likely last for the foreseeable future) extension of the DLR plus the creation of an additional version of the “step free access” wheelchair logo. This means that the Tube map now [...]
A lovely example of London tube map versus actual geography…
… is to be found in this post over on the Nudge blog. (Myself, I’d have taken the shorter route anyway, because I’d rather avoid using the Circle or Circle/District combo if at all possible given my repeated experiences of huge gaps in the service.) Now if only the Nudge team could turn their minds [...]
Tottenham Court Road is on the move…
[UPDATE: Another update of the London tube map came out in August 2011, with changes mostly to do with the Docklands Light Railway.] … in the latest tube map at least. New maps have started appearing on the London Underground, with Tottenham Court Road moved slightly to the west. This is so that it no longer [...]
The new London tube map
[UPDATE: Another update of the London tube map came out in April 2011, with Tottenham Court Road migrating westwards, and a further update in August 2011.] Yesterday was my first sighting of the latest edition of the London Underground’s Tube map, March 2011 edition. The main change is the addition of the new stretch of [...]
New tube map, featuring new Overground line
Here it is:
How things used to be: the London tube map, 1987
With the new, restored-Thames, version of the London tube map due out soon, I thought it would be fun to dig out my 1987 copy of the tube map. Back then there was a Thames, an East London Line and Aldwych – but no Terminal 5, North London Line or DLR expansion: (Click on image [...]
London Tube Map: Bring back the Thames! #tubemap
The new London Tube map is out, and overall it’s a big improvement on the most recent versions. There’s been a thorough decluttering, removing a lot of the fiddly, little used detail which usually gets added because someone says “But we must include…” and no-one replies “Putting more and more on a piece of paper [...]
