Yes, you read that headline correctly. Technically it's been illegal to leave rubbish in Transport for London's litter bins at stations with rail services. You might think a litter bin is there for placing litter in, but alas the lawyers weren't thinking of that when they drafted the London Regional Transport Bylaws back in 2000.
But don't worry if you've been placing litter in litter bins.
It will soon be legal again.
