How left or right wing the Liberal Democrats are seen isn’t the problem

An interesting table from the latest ComRes polling, both for how Ukip are seen as to the left of the Tories (something to note for anti-UKIP campaigners) but also for how close the Lib Dems are to the centre of political gravity:

There are many limitations of the left-right spectrum, but one thing this polling result shows – as did previous similar ones covered by Stephen Tall – is that the political issue for the Liberal Democrats is the public’s views on factors such as competence, consistency and strength rather than the party being seen as too left or too right wing.
