Harrish Bisnauthsing selected for Grantham and Stamford

Harrish BisnauthsingThe Sleaford Standard reports on the selection of a new Liberal Democrat Prospective Parliamentary Candidate (PPC):

Coun Harrish Bisnauthsing has been selected as the prospective parliamentary candidate for the Grantham and Stamford Constituency by the Grantham and Stamford Liberal Democrats.

Coun Bisnauthsing is a long serving district and town councillor in Stamford and was the Lib Dem candidate for the constituency in 2010.

The chairman of South Lincolnshire Liberal Democrats Brian Withnall said: “Harrish is enthusiastically involved in the life of his community and is respected by people of all parties and of none as a person who listens to and addresses the problems of the people he represents in Stamford.

“Harrish is truly a local candidate and I know of no better street campaigner.”…

Born in Mauritius, Coun Bisnauthsing came to Britain more than 40 years ago. He served in the RAF for 10 years as a radar technician and subsequently set up his own computer business.

Harrish Bisnauthsing also founded a charity a couple of years back:

An orphanage based in the foothills of the Himalayas which rescues and cares for child beggars has inspired a district councillor to found his own charity.

Harrish Bisnauthsing wants to raise awareness and funds in support of the Parmath Niketan Rishikesh, an ashram in the Haridwar region of northern India… [He] has recently returned from a four-week trip to India with a party of his cousins from Mauritius…

“I was taken aback by the amount of poverty there – but especially by these street children taken in by this particular ashram over the past three or four years. Some of these young children have been deliberately deformed so that they can be sent out on to the streets to beg for money,” he said…

“Some are orphans, some have been abandoned and some are being used and abused – some have been discovered with no hands, for instance,” Harrish says. [Stamford Mercury]
