Finally, finally, finally Ukip has decided that it doesn’t want the poster boy for scandal-ridden 1990s MPs to be a Parliamentary candidate for the party:

The former Tory minister withdrew from two selection contests — in Boston and Skegness, and Basildon — but had hoped for better luck in Portsmouth South, which is expected to pick a candidate tomorrow. However, the party’s national executive committee has decided that he’s too tarnished and unconventional even for Ukip. A party source says very firmly: “He is not going to be a candidate.”
