A very clever German pedestrian crossing

One of Edward de Bono’s examples when he popularised the idea of lateral thinking (including coining the phrase) was that of using mirrors outside lifts. Putting up a mirror doesn’t actually make a lift come more quickly, but it makes it feel like the lift comes more quickly as people are distracted by looking in the mirror.

This rather clever idea from Germany would work along similar lines I suspect, as well as adding in a bit of random human interaction between strangers which is no bad thing in many urban areas:
