Why did the Conservatives put this man on the Health Select Committee?

One of my regular favourite Conservative MPs, David Tredinnick, is back in the news:

A Tory MP has claimed NHS over-crowding could be solved by doctors using astrology to treat patients.

David Tredinnick said consulting the stars would “take huge pressure off doctors” and predicts astrology will “have a role to play in healthcare.”…

Bizarrely, Tredinnick, 65, who is chairman of the All-Party Group for Integrated Healthcare, went on to say people who opposed astrology were “racist”.

Pretty remarkably you might think. Especially when added to his support for homeopathy as a cure for autism, his belief that blood doesn’t clot when there’s a full moon, his calls for cancer drugs funding to be switched to alternative medicine and his claims for astrology CDs on MP’s expenses.

But what’s most remarkable is his membership in this Parliament of both the Health and the Science and Technology Select Committees in Parliament.

What on earth were his Conservative Party colleagues thinking when deciding that he should be one of their flag bearers on both those committees?

Health. Science and Technology.

The man who wants cancer drug funding cut for alternative medicine. And who thinks blood doesn’t clot when there’s a full moon.

Health. Science and Technology.

Why?
