Election deadline coming up: 5pm polling day for replacement postal votes and emergency proxy votes

5pm Thursday 7th May: that’s the deadline for the reissuing of a postal vote in cases of postal votes having gone astray or the paperwork being messed up. The postal vote still needs returning by 10pm on polling day to the Returning Officer (not just posted – but got to the Returning Officer, such as by dropping it off on polling day at one of the polling stations in the constituency).

5pm on polling day is also the deadline for emergency proxy vote applications in cases of medical emergencies. Again, the proxy vote itself then has to be cast before the usual 10pm close of polls on polling day.
