The front page of the Lib Dem website isn’t all it seems

Lib Dem website front page with Lynne Featherstone story
Brand Republic reports:

The Liberal Democrats are hoping to influence swing voters by showing them information about their constituency and candidates when they visit the party’s website.

Voters visiting libdems.org.uk will see news stories relevant to their local candidate’s campaign, after the party forged a partnership with geolocation specialists Digital Element.

For example, someone visiting the Lib Dem site from a Haringey-based IP address will see information on Lynne Featherstone, candidate for Hornsey and Wood Green.

Smart move.

Such techniques are never foolproof, but as with target letters the test isn’t ‘does anyone get the wrong message?’ but rather ‘do enough people get the right message for it to be worth doing?’
