Lib Dem membership tops 50,000

Unexpected but great – the huge surge in Liberal Democrat membership since 10pm on Thursday.

Labour’s post-May 2010 surge in membership didn’t foretell great things for the party as it turned out, so the wise reaction to the huge growth in Liberal Democrat membership is enjoyment followed by recognition that it puts the party in a much stronger place for the big struggles ahead – but that it’s no more than a warm up to what will need doing.
