Is this the worst ever nomination to be Chair of the Health Select Committee?

Fear
First, a recap for newcomers about the views of Conservative MP David Tredinnick:

One of my regular favourite Conservative MPs, David Tredinnick, is back in the news:

“A Tory MP has claimed NHS over-crowding could be solved by doctors using astrology to treat patients.

“David Tredinnick said consulting the stars would “take huge pressure off doctors” and predicts astrology will “have a role to play in healthcare.”…

Bizarrely, Tredinnick, 65, who is chairman of the All-Party Group for Integrated Healthcare, went on to say people who opposed astrology were “racist”.”

Pretty remarkably you might think. Especially when added to his support for homeopathy as a cure for autism, his belief that blood doesn’t clot when there’s a full moon, his calls for cancer drugs funding to be switched to alternative medicine and his claims for astrology CDs on MP’s expenses.

But what’s most remarkable is his membership in this Parliament of both the Health and the Science and Technology Select Committees in Parliament.

And now what’s happened? Another Conservative MP has decided to nominate Tredinnick to be Chair – yes, Chair – of the Health Select Committee.
