Ex-Lib Dem MP Alan Reid selected for Scottish Parliament elections

Alan Reid, Lib Dem
Alan Reid, Lib Dem MP for Argyll and Bute until May 2015 and in his time Parliament’s best chess player, has been selected to fight the Holyrood constituency of Argyll and Bute in the May 2016 elections.

With slightly different boundaries from the Westminster constituency, the Scottish Parliament seat was held by the Liberal Democrats 1999-2007, when the SNP won it. In 2011, the Lib Dems finished fourth and need a 19% swing to gain the seat although on the slightly different Westminster seat boundaries and with Alan Reid’s personal vote, in 2015 the Lib Dems were second and an 8% swing behind.

On being selected Alan Reid said,

Following on from the increase in our vote and clear second place at last May’s election, the Liberal Democrats are best placed to challenge the SNP and bring about the change that Argyll and Bute so badly needs.

The SNP have been in power far too long.

Our health service is being starved of funds and failing to meet its targets. Our police force is in crisis. College places have been slashed.

The SNP cuts to the council budget will see the loss of many jobs and services. The roll out of superfast broadband is painfully slow.

Argyll and Bute needs an experienced voice like myself to stand up in Holyrood and demand a better deal for this constituency. I will be campaigning on all these issues to bring about the change we so desperately need.
