Double demand for postal vote fraud investigations in Leicestershire

The Times‘s Red Box email brings the news:

Police have been asked to probe claims of electoral fraud during elections in Leicestershire last week amid concerns about the falsification of postal votes.

Andy McWilliams, the Ukip election agent for Leicestershire, said he went to the police on Friday after a large number of postal votes in the election for police and crime commissioner were thrown out because the signatures on the votes did not match those in the official records.

Separately, senior Conservatives are set to make a complaint to the Electoral Commission about what they claim is a suspiciously high number of postal votes cast in Labour constituencies in Leicester itself.

The election was won by the Labour peer Willy Bach, a former shadow attorney-general. Turnout was just 20 per cent across the county, but in one ward in Leicester East, where Keith Vaz – a friend of Bach – is the local MP, it hit 46 per cent. Of Lord Bach’s 78,000 votes, nearly 39,000 came from Leicester.
