Former leader of Camden Conservatives joins Lib Dems, cites Brexit

Leader of the Conservative Group on Camden Council for four years, Andrew Marshall had previously left the Conservatives over Brexit, but he’s now taken the further step of not only voting Lib Dem but also joining the party.
Europe played a large part in those switches, though it wasn’t the only factor:
V gracious Roger. No party has a monopoly on wisdom and @CamdenTories have many dedicated people. I’m not going to claim “my party left me” (did a bit on Europe). Everyone’s views should develop: inequality + arguably overbearing global capitalism more of an issue than in 1970s!

As local Liberal Democrat activist James King puts it,
Delighted that such an experienced and respected Camden councillor has joined the Lib Dems. Our door is open to other former Conservatives, who want to fight for an open, liberal UK and against hard Brexit.
Andrew Marshall joins Flick Rea in what is now the Lib Dem group on Camden Council. She has welcomed her new colleague, saying,
I’m delighted that Andrew and I will now be Liberal Democrat colleagues on the Council.
Like Andrew, the Lib Dems passionately believe that Camden benefits from EU membership. I know that many other liberal minded Camden residents who have previously supported the Conservatives are dismayed by the Government’s hard Brexit agenda.
Great to see Flick leader of a group of Lib Dem councillors again.
Traffic to the Liberal Democrats is not only from Conservative ranks, it’s also from Labour ranks – fuelled by Jeremy Corbyn’s hostility to the idea of the public getting to decide on whether the terms of Brexit end up being acceptable or not.
