Rebecca Trimnell selected by the Liberal Democrats in Gloucester

Rebecca Trimnell and Gloucester Liberal Democrats

Rebecca Trimnell is the pick of Liberal Democrat members in Gloucester to be the party’s next Prospective Parliamentary Candidate (PPC) for the constituency.

As the local newspaper reports:

She … works as an activities co-ordinator for people with dementia at a residential home in the city…

Dr Trimnell has a doctorate in politics and has been involved with the Liberal Democrats for more than 20 years after first helping her mother deliver Focus leaflets as a teenager.

She also hopes to become a city councillor for Westgate in 2020, is campaigning for more investment in the city centre and against the Conservative’s vanishing council.

“I am really honoured to be selected by the Liberal Democrats to be their Parliamentary candidate in Gloucester,” she said.

“It’s clear that Britain and Gloucester are facing real tough challenges over the next few years.

“This last week has shown that the Government is an absolute mess over Brexit with the resignations of Boris Johnson and David Davis.”

She’s also a former call handler for the Samaritans and although being selected in a seat where the party only just held its deposit in 2015 and 2017, it is also an area where the party has scored over 20% in the past.

Places like Gloucester are a key part of the party’s recovery. Even if they might not deliver a Lib Dem MP as soon as the more obvious locations, the work a PPC can do in building up the party, adding to our collective membership and volunteer capacity and helping increase the party’s local government base is vital.

One response to “Rebecca Trimnell selected by the Liberal Democrats in Gloucester”

  1. Becky Trimnell delivered leaflets in 1997 for me, when she was a schoolgirl in Marlborough Wilts (Devizes Constituency). Really good to know she’s still at it!
