Strong Conservative showing in this week’s council by-election results

Three Conservative Party defences, one Labour defence and four Liberal Democrat candidates are the basics of this week’s council by-elections.

Given the week of politics we’ve had, the Conservative performance was rather strong across these wards as the full results below show. No follow up to last week’s Lib Dem win alas.

Bush Hill Park, Enfield

Robert Wilson was the Liberal Democrat candidate in this Conservative ward.

Lancaster Gate, Westminster

A Conservative defence with Sally Gray as the Liberal Democrat candidate in the ward where Liberal Party leader Jeremy Thorpe used to live. Former Liberal Democrat Zack Polanski was the Green Party candidate.

Datchet, Windsor and Maidenhead

Tim O’Flynn was the Liberal Democrat in this long-running Conservative ward:

Upton, Wirral

The Labour ward of the week, with Alan Davies flying the flag for the Liberal Democrats:

These by-election results round-ups cover principal authority by-elections. See my post The danger in celebrating parish and town council wins for your own party for the reasons to avoid straying too often into covering town, parish or community council by-elections.

One response to “Strong Conservative showing in this week’s council by-election results”

  1. Bush Hill Park ward in Enfield is in Kate Osamor’s Edmonton constituency. A lot has been happening locally since the May elections.

    * Row over KO continuing to employ her drug-dealer son
    * Another local Tory councillor suspended for alleged racist comments in Council chamber
    * Controversial change of Labour Council leader amid allegations of entryism and communalism
    * This row becoming entangled withe the Corbynista attack on Joan Ryan MP
    * Labour candidate in bye-election seems to be anti the new Council leadership

Difficult to say which of these contributed to surprisingly good result for Tories
