Robert Court selected in Derbyshire Dales constituency

The new Liberal Democrat Prospective Parliamentary Candidate (PPC) for the constituency of Derbyshire Dales is Robert Court.

A physics teacher in London before becoming headmaster of Birkdale School in Sheffield for a dozen years, Robert Court has lived in the constituency for the last twenty years. He joined the Liberal Democrats shortly after the EU referendum two years ago.

On being selected, Robert Court said:

I never intended to become so involved in politics until last year, when something snapped. I decided I could not stand by and do nothing when our political world was so sullied by lies and evasions, by career politicians out for themselves, and by debate, both online and offline, polluted by nastiness and intimidation. Somehow mutual respect must be restored, the Brexit mess needs clearing up, and as a nation we have to navigate through all this without being shipwrecked on the rocks of extremism so enticingly placed by the other two main parties.

And we must build a world which offers genuine hope to our young people, who find themselves in many ways on the wrong side of a generational divide. So not out of ambition and not in any way trying to forge a career, I offer myself in service of everyone in Derbyshire Dales and of this country.
