Clacton Liberal Democrats select Callum Robertson as their next PPC

Members of Clacton Liberal Democrats have selected Callum Robertson to be their next Prospective Parliamentary Candidate (PPC).

Or as the local party’s press release puts it, to:

Put Liberalism back on the map in Clacton and stand for them at the next General Election. creating jobs and leaving a legacy that will save energy, put money back into people’s pockets and fight climate change.

A legal adviser, Callum Robertson has been active in the local community since moving to Essex in 2017. He works on crime and policing with the Liberal Democrats and is a campaigner against the plan to sell off our Essex Libraries and against legal aid cuts, knowing how they affect the people of Clacton.

He first joined the Liberal Democrats in Peterborough where he grew up after the hard work of their local councillors inspired him to join the party.

Callum Robertson said:

After seeing the brilliant work of the Liberal Democrats on same-sex marriage and the personal tax threshold, I was dismayed to see the post-coalition Conservatives press on with an authoritarian agenda.

On the electoral challenges that lie ahead, he added,

On the doorstep, voters tell me that they want a government that works with them and they all say that they aren’t happy with the current choice. This is why I am going to campaign on a liberal platform that says that the government should back out of people’s personal decisions and respect the rights of my individual constituents.

Let’s work together to not just oppose a Labour government and a Conservative government, let’s build, from the ground up, a Liberal Democrat government that puts people at its heart. The next general election has to take place by 2022 but could be called at any time due to the current instability within the Conservative party. When it does, we will be ready to provide a truly liberal alternative to what the current government has to offer.
