Lord Anthony Lester resigns from the House of Lords
The former Liberal Democrat peer, Lord Lester, has resigned from the House of Lords. He was facing suspension from the Lords over a sexual harassment case.
His resignation comes a few days before the House of Lords Committee for Privileges and Conduct was due to report on his case again following a Lords vote to send the case back to them.
As a Liberal Democrat spokesman said welcoming the decision:
Lord Lester has made the right decision in retiring from the House of Lords.
The leadership of the Liberal Democrats supported the original report from the Privileges Committee that had recommended his suspension from the House.
