Big Lib Dem victory in this week’s one council by-election

In amongst all the other excitement, there was one council by-election this week: a Liberal Democrat defence.

Triggered by the death of Liberal Democrat councillor Austin Hicks, this contest saw Siobhan Mitchell stand for the party. Siobhan has been a councillor before in this ward and is now again:

  1. this result is a genuine win, and can be seen as providing a mandate, in that the winner got over 50% of votes cast.
