Lib Dem leadership contest: Jo Swinson apologies over mailing error

Following Ed Davey’s apology for a poorly worded article, we now have frontrunner Jo Swinson apologising for a mailing error. It resulted in some party members being posted literature even though they had opted out of such contacts:

The 2019 Lib Dem leadership election is being covered by me both in podcast form with Stephen Tall in Never Mind The Bar Charts (subscribe here) and in email newsletter form with Liberal Democrat Newswire (sign up here).

  1. I have been asking for co-leaders as I haven’t felt that either contender can keep up the relentless drive that would take us to outstanding General Election success. I attended the hustings at Stratford-Upon-Avon on Saturday and heard nothing to change my mind.

  2. Personally I don’t think either candidate will have the same electoral appeal as Vince Cable and it is a pity he will never have the chance to fight a General Election. This clip from Jo Swinson’s TV interview on Sky reveals how defensively she reacts to what is evidently a minor breach of data security. Ed Davey, too, needs to lighten up in interviews when he is asked to justify his time as a minister in the coalition government.

  3. I don’t think she is reacting ‘defensively’, though I do find it disappointing that some of our members have felt the need to go to Sky News about this – was that really necessary?
