Lib Dems gain another council seat from Conservatives in by-election
Only two local council by-elections this week, but both with Lib Dem candidates – very welcome as it’s important to give people the chance to vote Lib Dem.
Bridlington North, East Riding
Mike Heslop-Mullins gave the ward its first Liberal Democrat candidate since 2007. Thank you Mike… and congratulations:

LDEM: 42.7% (+42.7)
CON: 26.6% (-44.5)
YORK: 11.4% (+11.4)
UKIP: 6.4% (+6.4)
LAB: 4.4% (-24.5)
IND (Dixon): 4.1% (+4.1)
IND (Robson): 2.5% (+2.5)
IND (Milns): 1.9% (+1.9)Liberal Democrat GAIN from Conservative.

While the Conservative Party seems fixated on worrying about the Brexit Party, it continues to ship votes and seats to the Liberal Democrats.
Whitecross, Herefordshire
Tricia Hales stood again for the Liberal Democrats, securing a healthy increase in the party’s vote:

LDEM: 28.1% (+10.5)
CON: 11.2% (-3.4)'It's Our County' HOLD.

I see the Independant’s are doing well again..(Tories in disguise?) .People with their own minds who do not want to be labelled as political. Yes the C’s do seem to be obsessed with Brexit Party and spreading the fear of a Labour Govnt. That is fine with me whilst they ignore us and we continue to build up strenght.
If I read the Bridlington result correctly the previous election was a straight fight between Conservative (71.1%) and Labour (28.9%). This time if not Brexit Party for the dedicated leavers we at least have UKIP. We also have a selection of independents for people who simply want to say “a plague on all the national parties”. And what happens? The Lib Dems, not having stood since 2007, knock everyone else out of the park – and in an area far north from anything likely to be regarded as a hotbed for remain. Can anyone tell me if there is some special reason for this? If not something very big is happening out there.
