Is politics still about left versus right? Never Mind The Bar Charts #18
Welcome to the latest episode of Never Mind The Bar Charts, a variation of the usual format in which I interview the ever-interesting Paula Surridge about her research into the British electorate. She’s been one of the pioneers in understanding how there is more than left versus right to modern British politics. Listen to hear what she has to say about what this means for the Liberal Democrats…

I’m really happy you’re making this podcast, and Paula was a great guest. But when you record in cafes it’s hard to listen to.
I would be more impressed by this research if they referred to prior work, such as by Chris Lightfoot and Tom Steinberg back in 2005 (referenced in Francis Irving’s blog in 2016).

What would be useful is a comparison between the YouGov data from 2005 and the current BMG data. It is quite possible that the 10 ‘values clans’ amount to overfitting of the data.
