Do you remember 1968? The St Peter’s by-election quiz
Do you remember 1968?
To find out what else happened in 1968, along with how Labour councillors prioritised giving money to an expensive Park Lane Hotel over frontline services, you’ll have to come along and help David Sant’s campaign in St Peter’s ward, Islington. Polling day is this Thursday, 11 August.
St Peter’s ward also includes some of the highest letterboxes I’ve come across (had to stand on tip-toe, extend arms – and still found it a stretch; was there a local architect who was previously a basketball player?) along with graffiti such as this and this, which is most certainly a cut above the average.
I was 4 years old in 1968 but I think it may have been the year Labour lost control of Islington council.
I was 14 at the time, In politics i remember [in the spring of that year] Enoch Powell creating a storm, with his ''Rivers Of Blood '' speech.
I got my PhD, then got married in Exeter Cathedral in 1968!
College I worked at had Czecho visitors…with minders.
I was at the Acton by-election in which Frank Liberal Davis came fourth behind tne National Front. A terrible result but it led to a change in the law.
Wikipedia says that I have misremembered the result, we came third; but it was a miserable day.
