Pizza Express: Euston Road

You sit down in a crowded Pizza Express, on a table surrounded on all sides by other tables in use. As the evening progresses, an exclusion zone appears around your table as each table near you clears out and does not have anyone else sat at it. By the end of the evening, there is you and your company sat in the middle of the Pizza Express, surrounded by a wide swathe of empty tables with the other dinners up against the furthest walls, as far from you as possible. Interpret that sequence of events as you wish… Myself, I’ll conclude that this was due to the staff being really keen to serve us well and have a clear run to the table and that it was in no way related to the decision of a certain other Pizza Express fan to retell stories involving a Vicar, The Only Way Is Essex and a current fashion trend. No way. At all.

So, on to the important matters – the toilet signage. The Euston Road Pizza Express (address – Clifton House) is fully made-out in the new Pizza Express branding, complete with the health and safety nightmare that is the new table adornments and the cutesy stripped toilet signs which also have unfortunately similar male and female logos. No variations from the standard signs here, alas.

The place is also decked out with black and white film footage being screened on one of the walls, along with books and large pictures of people on the wall, giving the place a more literary and artistic feel, appropriate for an outlet so near to the British Library. The overall feel though is rather like Langham Place Pizz Express – i.e. more like noisy airport terminal hallway than cosy retaurant.

Moving on to the food … this is one of the outlets that offers feta salad with chicken as a £1 extra, rather than chicken salad with feta as a £1 extra. I took advantage of the Christmas menu to try something new (shock!): the Christmas Glory. My verdict? Not enough chocolate.

A chocolate glory in a glass.

So that is 33 down, 105 (or thereabouts) to go.

UPDATE: Oh bugger. It was bound to happen some time. Yes, I have been here before. Make that 32 down, 106 to go.
