A good campaign tip from Greenwich Liberal Democrats

This morning I headed off south of the river (including a trip sat right at the front of a DLR train – woooooooooooo*) to go campaigning with the Liberal Democrat team in Greenwich. Having told them in a training session last year how useful it is to organise such communal campaigning events in order to make campaigning fun, I thought the least I could do was turn up for one of them!

Brownie points not only for them organising it and arranging a pub meet-up afterwards, but also the nice touch of ensuring everyone had a Lib Dem sticker to wear.

If you are going out delivering and people see you walking past, it is rather a missed opportunity if they don’t know that the Liberal Democrats have been out and about in person in their area. Not everyone who sees you will see a leaflet later. Hence the stickers. It’s not a new idea, but it is an often overlooked one – and one well worth remembering.

* In case you’re not familiar with DLR trains – they are automatic which means passengers can sit right at the front looking out of a big window at London as you go on a slow roller coaster ride through parts that have seen some of the most dramatic new pieces of architecture in the capital over the last few decades. New this time for me were the pylons being put in for the cross-Thames cable car and the towering piece of public art going up on the Olympics site.
