Blogging keeps on growing across the globe
Having pointed out before the increasing popularity of ever shorter forms of writings (from lots of words to a few words to no words), it is worth taking a look at what is happening with the long(-ish) form of online writing – blogging.
The latest global figures from Neilsen show the same picture as in previous years: a steady upwards march in the number of blogs, hitting 173 million in their latest blog survey – with over half the bloggers female.
Bloggers are not just bloggers. As Neilsen reports:
Bloggers are active across social media: they’re twice as likely to post/comment on consumer-generated video sites like YouTube, and nearly three times more likely to post in Message Boards/Forums within the last month.
What they are also is heavily dependent on American firms and technology – Blogger, WordPress and Tumblr.
Blogging may be international. The technology isn’t.
