Conservative council leader uses chauffeur driven official car for private wedding trip

This week the Leicester Mercury reported:

County council leader David Parsons used the authority’s chauffeur-driven Daimler to go to his daughter’s wedding.

The Tory politician was driven from his home in Kirby Muxloe to the service at Leicester Cathedral, then on to Beaumanor Hall and Quorn for events afterwards.

No payment was made to the council for the use of the car.

Details of the trip, in August 2007, have just come to light.

It follows the disclosure that Coun Parsons and his office cost taxpayers £1 million over the past five years, including £210,000 on chauffeur-driven travel.

Hat-tip: Jonathan Calder, a regular reporter of the misdeeds of David Parsons.
