Regional pay looks to be turning out to be the first major issue on which there are disagreements seeping into the public arena between Nick Clegg and Danny Alexander.
Two years into government is a long time for it to have taken for that to happen, but it does heighten the importance of the issue:
The FoI reference is to the text of a letter sent by Danny Alexander that extolled the virtues of regional pay, albeit virtues that were heavily downplayed in a subsequent letter from him and in his GMB speech.
If any Liberal Democrat local parties are thinking about what motions to put to the party’s autumn conference, regional pay is a good one to have near the top of the list.
UPDATE: ConHome has a good piece today about the strong coalition emerging against regional pay.
