Tired of London, Tired of Life: One Thing A Day To Do in London by Tom Jones

Wander into most bookshops (or browse Amazon) and you’ll find a large number of different ‘guides to London’ promising secret, quirky, forgotten or otherwise offbeat places to visit and things to do.

Tired of London, Tired of Life has rather more mainstream suggestions than many of them, which makes it great as an introductory guide for people have not yet thoroughly explored London but not so good for people who have already spent some time ferreting out from books or the internet interesting places to visit.

There is a strong showing for places where you can eat, drink and shop, with plenty of sites of historic interest sprinkled throughout.

The good quality production and generous use of white space and graphics makes the book very convenient and enjoyable to leaf through. My only small gripe is that each item is allocated to a specific date and not all the dates make that much sense, such as putting going on a tour guide walk around London down for late December rather than the summer months.

If you like this, you might also be interested in the Bryant and May novels, which strongly feature London and its eccentricities in their settings.
