Looking at the other recent Essex Police tweets about alleged abuse on Twitter, however, I also spotted this:

One police force passing on a complaint from the public to another police force via Twitter? All rather sensible, as it worked quickly and effectively, yet also an indication of how quickly the police’s approach to Twitter has changed in the last couple of years.
