Emily Frith selected as Hampstead & Kilburn candidate

Last night Emily Frith won out in a very competitive field to be the new Liberal Democrat Parliamentary candidate in Hampstead & Kilburn, taking over from Ed Fordham (who decided not to stand again).

Here’s how Emily Frith describes herself. It’s an impressive description.

Emily at work

• Freelance experienced campaigner for a prison reform charity and dyslexia charity as a working parent
• National campaigner as Health Advisor in the Liberal Democrats central Policy and Research Unit for four years. Worked alongside Paul Burstow MP, Evan Harris MP and Steve Webb MP on strategy, policy and media relations, dealing with the national media on a daily basis
• Created national media campaigns on issues from hospital superbugs to NHS dentistry
• Part of the team that organised Paddy Ashdown’s 1997 General Election Battle Bus tour
• Led policy and press teams for a well known national charity which works with people with complex needs like drug or mental health problems or a learning disability
• Degree in English from Cambridge University

Emily at home

• Head of the governing body of a Camden church with a very diverse congregation and social outreach programmes such as a Bengali children’s drama project
• Organised publicity for London’s leading non professional theatre company, as well as performing in a range of shows
• Volunteered for and helped manage a disability charity
• Experience of fundraising in a campaign which succeeded in raising £100,000 for a Camden church building, and to finance community projects

On being selected Emily Frith said,

I am delighted to be chosen to represent the Liberal Democrats in Hampstead and Kilburn. There is everything to play for here in this, the closest three way marginal in the country. We are campaigning to win.

I will fight for the credible economic plan Labour cannot deliver and the fairness in Government the Conservatives won’t deliver.

I am looking forward to continuing Ed Fordham’s great work in engaging with local communities and I am putting myself forward as an MP who can reflect the unique character of Hampstead and Kilburn.

As a proud Londoner and having lived in North London for most of my adult life I am looking forward to getting my teeth into the campaign representing the Liberal Democrats in Hampstead and Kilburn.
