How leaflets used to look: Colchester 1951
A gem from the Labour Party for the Colchester constituency in 1951:
A very different world where “competition” is put up there as so bad as to be grouped with “unemployed” and “war”.
You can see all the other leaflets in this occasional series about political leaflets here.
This is actually quite clever – did he win?
Demonstrates also how football team formations have developed over the decades

AlisonCIHBoard just saw it on Ben Howard’s fb page. Superb.
eddiecurry Should have used Clause 4-4-2
“Spec builder” ???
Gnorrn “Spec” is derogatory slang of the time, so it’s having a go at dodgy builders.
ShadeMyRegion2 standard 442 diamond attack would have won it for labour there
Twisted_Blood “Linesman: I. Despair”
Hi Mark,
I did not see any mention of Frank Liberal Davies a local election candidate in Finchley who was largely responsible for getting party names on ballot papers following his change of name.
Also back in the 50’s the main parties did not have a specific colour and in parts of Cornwall the Tory colour was red.
The Liberal Party was ahead of the game in training candidates and agents on election address layout and content. See my election address emailed to you separately.
