Is this the most expensive bus stop in the world?

It doesn’t look much to the untrained eye:

Hexham bus stop

Nor indeed does it look that much to the eye of a bus stop expert. Yet Hexham Town Council is claiming in its accounts that the bus stop is valued at £176,000.

Liberal Democrat Derek Kennedy has the story:

Councillor Derek Kennedy pointed out the figure, along with several others including a Mazda van for £169,000. When Councillor Kennedy challenged the figures the senior Conservative Councillor told him it was a “photocopier slip”. A further challenge by Councillor Kennedy resulted in Tory claims that Councillor Kennedy has “always struggled with figures. You never think, that’s your problem”.

The external auditor has now been asked to investigate.
