Welcome to Cecile Park, the road Haringey Council claims is in a good condition
Haringey Council has been making much recently of its new blitz on pothole repairs around the borough. That’s a big change from its previous approach to potholes – and a victory for the vigorous local Liberal Democrat campaigning on the issue.
However, there’s still quite a long way to go before Haringey Council really faces up to the scale of the problem rather than claiming things are better than they are (as they did in the case of this tragic accident caused by a pothole).
Take Cecile Park. According to Haringey Council’s Road Condition Survey, the road is in a “general good condition”. The reality? Judge for yourself from these photos I have taken, each of a different part of the road:
As one of the councillors for the area, David Winskill, said to me:
For Labour Haringey to suggest that part of this road is in good condition reminds me of a certain Parson and his egg. And, just like the egg, it stinks! The reason our roads are in such poor condition is not simply down to a harsh winter but the three years of neglect since they tampered with repair intervention levels.
